The Archbishop of York Youth Trust is excited to be welcoming 50 Primary Head Teachers and support staff from York and North Yorkshire to its Key Stage 2 Young Leaders Award conference next week at Bishopthorpe Palace on the 22nd April.

Caroline Ryder, Head Teacher at Carr Junior School in York will be delivering a Keynote speech to full conference next week about her experience of running the YLA.  She said:

“The Young Leaders Award has proven to be a fantastic programme for the young people at our school. The benefits have come on so many levels from character development, community engagement and social impact.  What’s more our children have learnt key leadership skills which they will go on to use in the future as they continue to be the change they want to see.”

In addition, Year 6 pupils from Carr Junior School will be speaking to delegates about what they have achieved through participating in the YLA over the past academic year including their Action Project taking part in the York Big Spring Clean - gathering 51kg of rubbish from the grounds and the area around the school to make a difference in their local community.

The Young Leaders Awards, at Key Stages 2, 3 and 4, are an active citizenship resource for schools and there are over 23,000 young people now signed up across the north of England.  The aim of the Awards is to encourage leadership in young people which will continue throughout their adult life.
